Electronic Media & Broadcasting student Violet Lewis began shooting photos for the men's basketball team's social media last fall and she hasn't stopped clicking.  With perfect camera settings and an aesthetic eye---Violet shows us the artistic beauty and athleticism of NKU athletes.

EMB students capture Bearcat conquest

Over 30 NKU Electronic Media & Broadcasting students were working for either ESPN+, NKU Athletics, the men's basketball team, the in-house video board, and/or the local media when the Norse beat crosstown rival Cincinnati. Most of the video of the historic evening was from their efforts.

Network cameraman, Paul Kremer, shared tips and equipment with the fall 2022 Sports Media Production class. Kremer's experiences include working ESPN 30 for 30's, CBS NFL football, Big Ten Network's The Journey, ESPN College football and the Master's for CBS.

Haven Wolfe previews baseball

In spring of 2022 Electronic Media & Broadcasting student Haven Wolfe talks baseball in front of a camera for the first time as she previews a series for NKU men's baseball social media. A few weeks later she becomes an on-camera talent as the fan cam host for the Cincinnati Reds. Haven is also the in-house talent/host for University of Cincinnati basketball and has appeared on national media discussing Bengals football.

The NKU Sports Talk Show hits the road doing live remotes (2022-23)

Josh Kalb, Bryan Baurer, Noah Miller, Phil Hoffman, Brady Kramer, Gracie Holland, Sophia Cates, Seth Jackson begin doing on-location live remotes with interviews of NKU greats and local sports figures.

EMB students produce women's game for Bally's Sports

For several years EMB students and student crew members from Media Services have been producing NKU men's basketball for the regional sports network Bally's Sports Ohio.  In 2022-23 they produced regional network womens' games as well. 

Documentary sneak preview

This is a sneak preview segment from an upcoming behind-the-scenes documentary about the student produced live productions of NKU sports for Bally's Sports Ohio and ESPN+. The dominant female voice is student producer Carly Motzer. The other voices are from Wes Akers (Director), Bill Farro (Engineer), Dylan Shelton (Tape AD), Omkar Bhat (Graphics) and Logan Enxel (Assistant Director). (Documentary release: Spring 2023)

Senior night "sizzle" highlights

Electronic Media & Broadcasting students Travis Martin and Paul Kremer "set the bar" all season long for "sizzle" highlight videos for both NKU Athletics and the NKU basketball teams' social media. These senior night highlights were their last "sizzle highlight" effort of the 2021-22 season.

The NKU Sports Talk Radio Show

In 2020-21 school year EMB students Brendan Connelly, Noah Schuler and Justis White produce "The NKU Sports Talk Radio Show" for the Northerner as part of Wes Akers' sports media production class. In this episode they talk with the show's audio engineer, EMB student Paul Kremer, about his experience working with his dad and CBS at the Master's tournament.

Electronic Media & Broadcasting students Travis Martin and Paul Kremer highlight a Marques Warrick 30-point performance in this "sizzle" video.

Basketball Commerical (2021)

Electronic Media & Broadcasting students Paul Kremer and Travis Martin show off their artistic skills to create this commercial promoting the upcoming mens' basketball season of 2021-22.

One-man band baseball coverage (2022)

Shooting single camera field level highlights and doing a one-man band game package for baseball is one of the hardest tasks in television reporting. But, Electronic Media & Broadcasting student Brendan Connelly took his swing at it. Not bad for his first time. This effort was used by the NKU baseball teams' social media. 

Fox Sports Ohio telecast (2018)

NKU student basketball productions begin running on regional sports network Fox Sports Ohio and presently continue on Bally's Sports Ohio. One of very few, if any, student produced telecasts on a regional sports network. Bally's Sports Ohio reaches more than 5 million homes.

Students Emma Wilson produced & Tanner Robinson directed first game.

ESPN SportsCenter lead story

Highlights from NKU's student produced telecast have twice led off ESPN's SportsCenter with anchor Scott Van Pelt's "The Best Thing I Saw Today" segment.

NKU legend Drew McDonald halftime feature 

EMB student Carly Motzer documents the amazing career of Drew McDonald in this halftime interview segment conducted during the Covid epidemic season of 2020.

NKU Sportsbreak debuts (2018)

Electronic Media and Broadcasting students team up with NKU athletics and Media Services to produce NKU Sportsbreak. Show first hosted/produced by Tori Watkins, Kevin Carey and Chandler Blackmond.

New Sports Show Open (2012)

​Electronic Media and Broadcasting student Eric Edens creates a new open for The NKU Sports Show. The open features a video board. Ironically, Eric went on to a career working for Daktronics. The company that makes stadium and arena in house video boards.

The NKU Sports Show(12-16-10)

This show features national championship highlights from the 2010 men's soccer team. Producer/host Abby Esmena battled the snow while shooting spectacular footage to capture the historic achievement.

The NKU Sports Show (3-3-08)

This show features national championship highlights from the women's 2008 basketball team. Early adopters of the Youtube platform, The NKU Sports Show was a weekly highlight show first produced by Electronic Media and Broadcasting students Trista Hall and Brady Laber in Wes Akers' Sports Media Production class.

First Sports Telecast (11-22-95)

NKU radio and television students and Media Services produce their first live sports telecast. They start the tradition of being one of the country's longest running student producers of live sports productions.
